A few months ago, my husband and I were invited to a special advanced screening of DreamWorks Pictures’ Delivery Man starring Vince Vaughn, and we both were pleasantly surprised by how much we loved it! It opens this Friday, November 22nd, but we already can’t wait until it comes out on DVD. It’s based on a French film, which my husband has seen and said was just average. But, this version is anything but average.
One expects any movie starring Vince Vaughn to be funny, and this definitely was, but it was also heartfelt and real. Vaughn’s character David is a bit of a screw up that doesn’t really take responsibility for anything. When he was younger, he donated sperm to make some extra cash, and now he discovers that the clinic kinda went nuts with it, and he has 500+ kids! Some of the kids want to know who he is, even though the clinic promised him anonymity, and are suing to learn his identity. The movie follows him as he tries to figure out how to reconcile his new found fatherhood with his current life.
While the premise may sound a bit silly, they did a really great job of keeping it from being so. The subject matter was dealt with in a lighthearted but authentic manner that kept it from being goofy and kept us engaged in the story. Vaughn delivers a sincere performance and one that leaves the audience believing in him. Christ Pratt, who plays Vaughn’s disgruntled best friend in the film, is funny and droll, portraying a comedic, but realistic version of an exhausted stay at home parent of four.
Overall, it was a very enjoyable film, and one that we will purchase to add to our DVD collection when it comes out…we may even go see it in theaters again. See DreamWorks Pictures’ Delivery Man in theaters everywhere this Friday November 22nd!
